On September 27, I presented to students, faculty, and members of the STC Palm Beaches Chapter on Optimizing your LinkedIn profile for professional communication network building. By a show of hands, only one attendee out of over 40 indicated that he had updated his LinkedIn profile in the last month (with a status update or other interactive change). Not surprisingly, 95 percent were on Facebook and were actively having conversations. What’s the difference? Facebook is fun because it is interactive and current. We can actively participate with our LinkedIn network connections to be more engaged.
LinkedIn, like all social networking tools, is a platform to engage with your network connections. Be an active participant by communicating and having conversations with your connections. Click Like on status updates, add a comment to posts, and send congratulatory notes when a network connection changes jobs. It’s easy, participate to provide the care and feeding that your network deserves.
Abundance happens when you dig the well before you are thirsty. Drink often, share what you have, and offer to help others.
