I am enthusiastic about life. I am curious and often take the path less traveled. I am a persistent optimist and enjoy mastering technical skills, building relationships, and pursuing lifelong learning.

I am an innovative technical writer with quality and fun as key ingredients. I think of myself as a problem preventer. I strive to communicate well so that things can go well. A virtual worker since 2007, I am a purveyor of positivity, a stalwart optimist, an intrepid adventurer, and a frequent home exchanger. I am an avid bird watcher on land and on water. As an active member of the Freedom Boat Club, I enjoy my time at the helm of motor vessels in many different ports of call. I am most proud of my roles as wife, daughter, sister, friend, and member of my Boynton Beach community.

I am a communications professional with extensive experience in planning, designing, developing, delivering, and maintaining information products for a variety of audiences and purposes. I love what I do.

In 2021, I entered the emerging blockchain technology space, where I create technically accurate content that fuels creative advancement and paves the way to Web 3. Cultivating and sustaining relationships based on trust, transparency, and the promotion of shared goals is essential in my personal and professional life.

My career spans decades of technology and tools advances and includes work in a variety of roles. See my LinkedIn profile and connect with me in that space to share tech comm resources.

Barrie day 1 Tendermint

Feb. 22, 2021 My first day at Tendermint.com

I have many years of engagement as a member and volunteer leader in Toastmasters International. In 2013 I earned the rank of Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), Toastmasters International’s highest distinction in recognition of communication and leadership. I am a past president of Princeton Toastmasters and have served in various club, area, and district leadership roles, including service to more than 4500 members as District 38 Public Relations Officer (PRO).

For my volunteer leadership work in the technical communication career space, I earned the honorary rank of Associate Fellow in the international Society for Technical Communication (STC). I’m most active in the Write the Docs global community of people who care about documentation. I am co-manager of the Florida Meetup group. Join us for virtual coffee hours and technical presentations.

For all of this professional volunteering, I’m a silver medalist! I have twice earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award in recognition and appreciation for my commitment to strengthening our Nation and for making a difference through volunteer service.

  1. I recently saw a cartoon drawing of a blogger/tweeter that appeared on a post on this blog. It would be a perfect illustration for a short story I’ve written entitled The Importance of Communication, which is soon to be posted on my own blog. I wondered if you would give permission for me to use it as an illustrated title. Naturally I would credit it to you. Many thanks, hopefully. Kind regards. Val.
